What types of metal is used as the hardware for the bags?

For all bags at Alysia Myette Designs, the metal is coated*. This is the case for gold, silver, black metal, gun metal and rainbow metal as well as the black onyx metal zippers from YKK that are used. In order to preserve accessible prices and to keep the colours of the bags and hardware fun- coated is the way to go. The staying power of the coating varies but general tarnishes after at least one year of heavy use and everyday wear.

Solid brass (gold) and solid steel (silver) options can be requested by ordering a custom bag but the cost of these items are higher and will incur a higher fee to produce the bag.

*Not all bags are nickel free, please reach out if you have any concern about nickel allergies

How long will my bag last?

With heavy use (everyday wear) the bags are quite durable. The durability of the bags is highly dependent on the wearer’s use of the bag. Some materials, such as coated metals, pleathers and leathers with printed colours or patterns (all neons and holographic colours) can show signs of wear and tear after a year due to rubbing, exposure to the elements (extreme heat/cold/water/detergents) and how much active use the bag sees over time.

All bags can be repaired at any time for free up to one year after purchase (shipping not included). Straps on the bags have a lifetime guarantee and can be repaired, replaced, lengthened or shortened at any time after purchase for free. Please see my return policies for more information.

Can I wash my bag?

Yes! I have created a handy guide for how to spot treat stains on your bag on my Instagram page. If your bag is entirely fabric, it can be machine washed on cold and hung to dry. However, when possible, it is always recommended to hand wash the bags using a gentle detergent (containing no bleach) to ensure no damage occurs to your washing machine due to the metal hardware on the bag, and to preserve the size, shape and quality of the bag over time. In all cases, bags should never be placed in the dryer at any time and always be hung to dry.
